Delivery to Alaska and Hawaii is available; however, standard transit times of 2–4 business days do not apply to these states. Freight routing to Alaska and Hawaii involves additional transit legs and may take 7–14 additional business days beyond the standard timeframe. Order Processing Timeline

Processing time is the period between when you place your order and when it is handed to the freight carrier. This is separate from your transit time. Understanding both helps you calculate your total delivery window accurately.

Your order arrives at your address within 2–4 business days of dispatch. Curbside delivery — please be present or arrange a representative to accept.

JDM State Motors of NC charges a single, flat shipping rate of $225.00 USD on every order, regardless of the item's weight, dimensions, destination state, or order value. This flat rate covers the full cost of freight handling, pallet preparation, carrier fees, and standard curbside delivery to your address.

There are no additional surcharges added after checkout. The shipping total shown during checkout is the final amount you pay for shipping. We do not charge fuel surcharges, dimensional weight fees, or residential delivery surcharges on top of the flat rate.

Federal Holidays

We do not process or dispatch orders on the following U.S. federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Orders placed on or immediately before a federal holiday will be processed on the next available business day.

Freight Logistics

Shipping Methods & Carriers

JDM engines and transmissions are heavy, high-value freight items. We do not ship via standard parcel carriers such as UPS Ground or FedEx Home Delivery for these products. All shipments are dispatched via a vetted network of LTL (Less-Than-Truckload) and heavy freight carriers capable of safely transporting palletized automotive components.

LTL Freight

Less-than-truckload freight is our primary shipping method. Your item ships on a secure pallet via a certified freight carrier. Curbside delivery is included — the driver will bring the pallet to your curb or driveway edge but is not obligated to move it inside.

Carrier Selection

We select the most reliable and expedient carrier available for your delivery region. Carriers in our network include but are not limited to Old Dominion Freight Line, FedEx Freight, Estes Express, and XPO Logistics. Carrier selection is made at our discretion based on route availability and delivery performance.

Packaging & Securing

All engines and transmissions are drained of fluids, wrapped in industrial stretch film, bolted or strapped to a hardwood pallet, and banded securely for transit. This preparation protects against freight damage and ensures the carrier handles the shipment properly throughout its journey.

Freight Delivery Requirements — Please Read Before Ordering

Be Present at Delivery: LTL freight delivery requires a responsible adult to be present at the delivery address. The carrier will contact you (via the phone number on your order) to schedule a delivery appointment window before arrival. Failure to be present will result in a missed delivery fee and possible re-delivery charges.

Inspect Before Signing: You must inspect the pallet and packaging for visible freight damage before signing the carrier's delivery receipt. If you see damage, you must note it on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves. Signing without noting damage waives your right to file a freight damage claim.

Curbside Only: The $225 flat rate covers curbside delivery only. The driver will bring the freight to the curb or driveway edge. Moving the item inside a garage, shop, or building is the customer's responsibility. Liftgate service (for lowering from truck to ground) can be arranged — contact us before ordering.

Equipment to Receive Heavy Freight: JDM engines can weigh 200–600 lbs. Please have appropriate equipment (engine hoist, pallet jack, or assistance from your shop) available at the time of delivery.

Shipment Visibility

Tracking Your Order

Once your order has been collected by the freight carrier, you will receive an automated email containing your tracking number and a link to the carrier's tracking portal. You can also track your shipment at any time through our dedicated tracking page.

Freight tracking updates may not be as frequent as parcel tracking. It is normal for a freight shipment to show no new scan updates for 12–24 hours during transit, particularly over weekends. If your tracking has not updated for more than 3 business days, please contact us.

Delivery Appointment

The freight carrier will call the phone number on your order to schedule a delivery appointment window, typically 1–2 business days before delivery. Ensure your contact number is correct at checkout.

Shipment Issues

Damaged, Lost & Missing Shipments

Freight Damage

If your shipment arrives with visible damage to the packaging, pallet, or the item itself:

  • 1. Note the damage on the carrier's delivery receipt before the driver leaves. This is essential for a freight claim.
  • 2. Photograph the damage to the packaging and item from multiple angles before moving it.
  • 3. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with your order number and photos. We will file a freight claim on your behalf.

Lost Shipments

A shipment is considered lost if:

  • Tracking shows no movement for more than 7 business days, or
  • The carrier confirms the shipment is unlocatable

Contact us immediately and we will open a carrier trace. If confirmed lost, we will arrange a replacement shipment or a full refund at your choice.

Undeliverable Packages

If a shipment is returned to us as undeliverable due to:

  • Incorrect or incomplete address provided at checkout
  • No one present to receive after multiple delivery attempts
  • Refusal of delivery without prior authorization from JDM State Motors

The customer is responsible for all return freight costs and re-delivery charges. We will contact you to arrange re-delivery or process a refund minus all applicable freight charges.

After Delivery

Returns & Refund Overview

Return Window & Process

  • Returns are accepted within 30 calendar days of the delivery date
  • Contact us first to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number
  • Item must be returned in the same condition as received, with all original components
  • Refunds issued within 5–10 business days after we receive and inspect the returned item

Return Shipping Costs

Return shipping for used JDM parts is the customer's responsibility unless the return is due to our error (wrong item shipped, misrepresented listing, or confirmed pre-shipment defect). Engines and transmissions must be returned via a comparable LTL freight service.

Buyer Responsibilities by State

U.S. State-Specific Rules & Regulations

JDM State Motors of NC ships to all 50 states. Because JDM parts — especially engines and transmissions — are subject to varying state-level emissions, safety, and registration laws, we provide the following state-specific guidance. It is each buyer's sole responsibility to verify local compliance before purchasing, installing, or registering any JDM component.

CA California — CARB & Emissions Compliance

California enforces the most stringent automotive emissions regulations in the United States under the California Air Resources Board (CARB). JDM engines are manufactured to Japanese domestic market (JDM) specifications and are not CARB-certified for use in on-road vehicles in California.

Installing a non-CARB-compliant engine in a California-registered vehicle subjects the vehicle to a failed smog check, potential BAR (Bureau of Automotive Repair) referral, and inability to legally register or operate the vehicle on California roads. This applies regardless of the JDM engine's emission output.

Off-road and race-use-only vehicles may be exempt from CARB smog requirements. California buyers should consult the California BAR, a STAR-certified smog station, or a qualified automotive attorney before purchasing any JDM engine for an on-road vehicle. JDM State Motors of NC accepts no liability for California registration or smog compliance failures.

CARB CARB-Adopting States (MA, CT, NY, WA, OR, VT, ME, NJ, MD, PA, CO, VA, MN, NV, RI, DE)

The following states have adopted California's CARB emission standards under Section 177 of the Clean Air Act: Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Washington, Oregon, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Virginia, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, and Delaware.

Buyers in CARB-adopting states face the same restrictions as California buyers with respect to engine swaps in vehicles subject to emissions testing. The applicability of CARB standards to engine replacements varies by county, vehicle year, and specific testing program. Some jurisdictions within these states may have stricter county-level requirements.

We strongly recommend contacting your state's DMV or environmental protection agency before purchasing a JDM engine for use in a vehicle registered in one of these states.

TX Texas — Engine Year & Emissions Testing

Texas requires emissions testing in certain counties, including the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Houston area, San Antonio, Austin, El Paso, and Beaumont. Texas law requires that a replacement engine in an emissions-tested vehicle must be from the same model year or newer than the vehicle being repaired.

JDM engines imported from Japan may carry a different model year than U.S.-market vehicles of the same nameplate. Texas buyers in emissions-testing counties should confirm the JDM engine's year of manufacture and its compatibility with Texas emissions testing requirements before purchasing. Contact the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or a licensed Texas emissions testing station for guidance.

FL Florida — No Statewide Emissions Testing

Florida does not currently require vehicle emissions testing for registration purposes on a statewide basis. Miami-Dade County previously had an emissions testing program, but as of the time of this writing, statewide mandatory emissions testing does not apply.

Florida buyers should still ensure that any engine swap complies with the Florida Clean Indoor Air Act and any applicable federal EPA regulations. Buyers are responsible for checking current Florida DHSMV requirements at the time of registration.

EPA Federal EPA Requirements — All 50 States

Regardless of state, all on-road vehicles in the United States must comply with applicable U.S. EPA emissions regulations under the Clean Air Act (42 U.S.C. § 7401 et seq.). Replacing a U.S.-spec engine with a JDM engine that does not meet the emissions requirements for that vehicle's model year may constitute a violation of federal anti-tampering provisions under 42 U.S.C. § 7522.

These federal restrictions apply to vehicles used on public roads. Vehicles used exclusively off-road (racing, track, off-highway) are generally exempt from on-road emissions compliance requirements.

JDM State Motors of NC sells its parts in compliance with applicable import and commercial resale laws. The buyer is solely responsible for compliance with EPA and state emissions laws at the point of installation and use.

ALL All States — Used Parts Consumer Protection Laws

Used automotive parts sales across all 50 states are subject to the Federal Trade Commission Act's consumer protection provisions, which prohibit deceptive or misleading descriptions of goods. JDM State Motors of NC complies with these requirements by accurately describing the condition, origin, and documented mileage of every item listed for sale.

Many states have their own used automotive parts or salvage yard laws. JDM State Motors of NC operates as a direct importer and reseller of JDM parts, not a salvage yard. Our parts are sourced directly from Japan and are subject to North Carolina's applicable business and commercial laws, where our company is registered (EIN: 93-4377095).

If you have questions about whether a JDM part is legal for installation in your vehicle or state, we recommend consulting a licensed mechanic, your state's DMV, or a qualified attorney familiar with automotive regulations in your jurisdiction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does shipping actually take from order to delivery?

Total delivery time is the sum of processing time plus transit time. Processing takes 1–2 business days, and transit takes 2–4 business days, making the typical total window 3–6 business days from the date of order. If you order before the 1:00 PM ET cutoff, processing begins the same day, which reduces your wait. If you order after the cutoff or on a weekend, add one extra business day for the start of processing.

Is the $225 flat rate the only shipping fee I will pay?

Yes — for orders delivered to the contiguous 48 states. The $225 is a flat, all-inclusive freight rate. There are no fuel surcharges, residential delivery fees, or dimensional weight fees added on top. For Alaska and Hawaii, the standard flat rate does not apply; contact us for a freight quote before placing your order. Liftgate service, if requested, is priced separately and must be arranged before shipping.

Will I receive a tracking number?

Yes. Once your item has been picked up by the freight carrier, an automated email containing your tracking number and carrier tracking link will be sent to the email address on your order. You can also track your shipment at any time on our Order Tracking page. Note that freight tracking updates may lag behind the actual movement of your shipment by 12–24 hours.

Do you ship to my state?

We ship to all 50 U.S. states. However, we do not ship to international destinations, P.O. Boxes, APO/FPO military addresses, or freight-forwarding addresses. For Alaska and Hawaii, additional transit time applies. Please contact us before ordering for an accurate delivery estimate if you are located in AK or HI.

My shipment arrived damaged. What should I do?

If damage is visible when the freight is delivered: (1) Do not sign the delivery receipt without noting the damage. Write "Damaged" on the carrier's paperwork before the driver leaves. (2) Photograph the pallet, packaging, and item immediately. (3) Contact us within 48 hours at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with your order number and photos.

If you signed for the delivery without noting damage and discover damage later, document it immediately and contact us. Concealed damage claims must be reported within 5 business days of delivery. We will work with you to file a claim with the carrier, though unnotated concealed damage claims are subject to the carrier's own claim approval process.

Can I change my shipping address after placing an order?

Address changes can be accommodated before the order is dispatched to the carrier. Once a shipment is in transit, address corrections may not be possible or may incur carrier re-routing fees. Can I cancel my order before it ships?

Yes — orders can be cancelled at no charge before they are dispatched to the freight carrier. Once the carrier has picked up your shipment, cancellation is no longer possible and the order becomes subject to our return policy. How are the engines packaged for shipping?

All engines and transmissions are drained of any residual fluids, wrapped in industrial-grade stretch wrap to protect against contamination and minor abrasion, and bolted or strapped securely to a hardwood pallet. The entire pallet is then banded and labeled with carrier-compliant hazardous materials and weight markings where required. This packaging process is designed to protect your part against the rigors of LTL freight transit and ensures the carrier handles it as heavy industrial freight.

Do you ship on weekends or holidays?

No. Freight carriers do not schedule pickup or delivery on Saturdays, Sundays, or U.S. federal holidays. Our warehouse dispatches shipments Monday through Friday only. Orders placed over the weekend are reviewed on Saturday but will not be dispatched until Monday. Orders placed on or before a federal holiday will begin dispatch on the next available business day.
