JDM Subaru Engines for Sale
Our JDM Subaru engines come straight from Japan, tested before they leave our facility. They're ready to drop into a WRX, STI, BRZ, Forester, Legacy, Outback, or Impreza. Every Subaru engine here has real mileage listed and a compression check behind it.
EJ20 and EJ25 turbo (WRX, STI)
The EJ20 and EJ25 turbo engines-built Subaru's performance name. Our EJ257 2.5L turbo engine fits a wide run of WRX STI years and holds up well when it's built right. The EJ25 also makes more low-end torque than the EJ20, which is why it's a common pick for a WRX engine swap.
EJ257 and the JDM STI engines
STI models got the EJ257 rather than the milder EJ255 in some Legacy GT and Forester XT trims. We also stock the EJ257 from an Impreza WRX STI, pulled low-mileage and compression-tested before listing.
Open deck vs semi-closed deck
Subaru changed block casting over the years, and it matters. Open deck blocks flex more under boost, while semi-closed deck blocks hold up better past roughly 400 horsepower. Not every EJ25 code shares the same deck, so talk to our team before building past stock power.
FA20 (BRZ, Forester XT)
The FA20 is Subaru's newer flat four. The naturally aspirated version powers the BRZ, while the turbo FA20T runs in the WRX and Forester XT. Our FA20T from a Forester XT drops into 2014 to 2016 models directly, and this FA20 engine spins up faster than the EJ25 while using less fuel.
Naturally aspirated boxers
Not every Subaru engine swap needs a turbo. The FB20 from an Impreza is a clean, affordable option for a straight replacement.
Impreza and Crosstrek
Our EJ25 AVCS from an Impreza fits 2006 to 2010 models and keeps the factory AVLS timing intact. Crosstrek owners share much of the same FB architecture, though it's worth confirming your engine code first.
Forester, Legacy and Outback
This is where most of our Subaru Forester engine and Subaru 2.5 engine demand comes from. The FB25 shared between Outback and Legacy fits both platforms, and we also carry the PZEV FB25 for Forester.
EZ30 and EZ36 flat-six
The EZ30 and EZ36 are Subaru's six-cylinder engines, mostly found in higher-trim Legacy, Outback, and Tribeca models. We don't currently stock either here, but check our full Subaru engine catalog since inventory turns over often.
Short block vs long block
A short block gets you the case, crank, rods, and pistons, nothing else. A long block adds the heads and valvetrain, and it's what most engines on this page ship as. Need a matching gearbox too? Our Subaru transmissions page covers manual and CVT options.
Testing, warranty and freight
Every engine gets a compression test and inspection before it ships, and most units run 45,000 to 55,000 miles. Freight depends on weight and location, so check our shipping policy for timelines before you order.
Subaru engine FAQs
Will an EJ25 fit where an EJ20 came out?
Usually yes, since both share the same block dimensions and mounting points. A few sensors or brackets may still need to move over depending on your year.
How long does a JDM Subaru engine last?
Most run well past 150,000 miles when maintained. Japan's inspection rules push low-mileage cars off the road early, which is why these engines still have plenty of life left.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes, every engine ships with a warranty period. Check our FAQs page for the full terms.
Can I swap a WRX engine into a non-turbo car?
It's possible, but it usually needs a matching ECU, wiring, and fuel system. Talk to our team before you commit to a swap like this.
