We deal exclusively in used JDM engines, transmissions, differentials, suspension assemblies, and other pre-owned Japanese automotive components imported from Japan. Because every part in our inventory is a one-of-a-kind, pre-owned item — physically inspected, photographed, and listed individually — the moment an order is placed, that specific item is reserved and removed from available stock.
This policy is designed to be fully transparent about when you can cancel, how to do it, and exactly what financial outcome you can expect at each stage. We do not use vague language or blanket "all sales are final" clauses — instead, every scenario is explained in plain English below.

Cancellation Eligibility
What Can & Cannot Be Cancelled
Not every order qualifies for cancellation. The eligibility depends on the processing status of your order at the time your request is received — not at the time your request is sent. Review both columns carefully before submitting a cancellation request.
Orders We Can Cancel

Orders We Cannot Cancel
- ✗ Orders that have already shipped (a tracking number has been issued)
- ✗ Orders in "Fulfilled" or "Out for Delivery" status in our Shopify system
- ✗ Orders where the item has been handed to the carrier (UPS, FedEx, USPS, or freight)
- ✗ Custom or special-request sourcing orders confirmed in writing
- ✗ Orders placed more than 24 hours ago that are being actively processed
- ✗ Orders for items that have been partially installed or modified by the buyer
- ✗ Orders placed under a fraudulent identity or with a stolen payment method
If your order has already shipped and you no longer want it, do not refuse delivery — refused shipments returned without authorization incur return freight deductions from your refund. Instead, please visit our Refund Policy page to initiate a proper return once the package is in your possession.
Cancellation Windows
When You Can Cancel — By Time
We process orders Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM ET and Saturday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM ET. All time windows below are calculated from the moment your order is confirmed (payment captured), measured in Eastern Time. Weekend and holiday hours may extend processing times.
Contact us immediately after placing your order. If it has not been processed, we can cancel it in full with no fees. This is the safest and fastest window. Call or email us directly for the fastest response.
We will review your cancellation request and check the fulfillment status. If the item has not been allocated for picking, we can still cancel. A 5% processing fee may apply to cover payment gateway costs already charged by our payment processor.
After 24 hours, orders are typically in active fulfillment or already shipped. Cancellation is not possible. If the order shipped, refer to our Refund Policy for next steps. For freight items, additional lead time applies.
Freight / LTL Shipments (Engines & Transmissions): Large items such as complete JDM engines and transmissions may be shipped via freight carriers. For these orders, the practical cancellation window is narrower — often only 4–6 hours — because freight pickups are scheduled early in the business day. We do not charge restocking fees for cancelled orders — only for returns of shipped items. However, third-party payment processor fees (charged by Shopify Payments, PayPal, or your credit card network) are non-refundable once a transaction has been authorized. Payment Methods & Timelines
Refunds are issued to the same payment method used at checkout. We cannot redirect a refund to a different card, bank account, or PayPal address.

The 5% Processing Fee — Explained
When a payment is captured through Shopify Payments, PayPal, or any card network, the payment processor immediately charges us a transaction fee (typically 2.9% + $0.30 or higher). This fee is not returned to us when a refund is issued — we absorb it. The 5% fee for cancellations made 2–24 hours after ordering represents a portion of that non-refundable cost, not a penalty.

US State Consumer Protection Laws
We ship to all 50 US states and comply with applicable consumer protection laws in each jurisdiction. Where state law provides you with rights that are broader than our standard policy, those rights apply. Below are key state-specific considerations. This is not an exhaustive legal summary — consult an attorney if you have jurisdiction-specific questions.
North Carolina (Our Home State)
JDM State Motors of NC LLC is registered in the State of North Carolina and subject to the North Carolina Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act (NCGS § 75-1.1) and the North Carolina Consumer Protection Act. Under NC law, all cancellation and refund terms must be clearly disclosed prior to purchase — which this policy fulfills.
North Carolina does not have a statutory "cooling-off" period for online purchases of automotive parts. However, our own 0–2 hour cancellation window functions as a goodwill cancellation right for NC customers and all US customers. NC customers may also have recourse through the NC Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM if they believe they have been treated unfairly.
Sales tax is collected for all NC orders per North Carolina Department of Revenue requirements. Our business address (1334 Bobbitt Dr., Garner, NC 27529) is the legal address for all service of process and correspondence.
California
California consumers are protected under the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act (CLRA, Civil Code § 1750 et seq.), the Unfair Competition Law (Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). California has strong disclosure requirements for merchants, which this policy and our Privacy Policy satisfy.
California's Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act governs implied warranties on consumer goods — note that our products are sold as used/pre-owned automotive components, and any express warranty terms are disclosed in the individual product listing. California buyers have the right to pursue small claims disputes up to $12,500.

Emissions Note: California enforces CARB (California Air Resources Board) emissions standards. Some JDM engines and parts may not comply with CARB regulations. Buyers in California are solely responsible for confirming that any purchased item complies with CARB and local emissions regulations before installation or vehicle registration.
Texas
Texas consumers are protected under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices – Consumer Protection Act (DTPA, Tex. Bus. & Com. Code § 17.41 et seq.). This act prohibits false, misleading, or deceptive acts in commerce. Our policy is written to fully comply with DTPA's disclosure requirements by clearly stating all fees, timelines, and conditions without ambiguity.
Texas does not mandate a specific cooling-off period for online sales of automotive parts. However, the DTPA does allow consumers to seek remedies if they believe a seller acted deceptively. Sales tax is collected on Texas orders per Texas Comptroller guidelines. Texas buyers should confirm that JDM parts meet Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements before installation.
New York
New York consumers are protected under New York General Business Law § 349 (Deceptive Acts and Practices) and § 350 (False Advertising). New York law requires that any cancellation or return policy displayed at the point of sale be honored exactly as stated. This page serves as our point-of-sale disclosure.
New York does not have a general statutory right to cancel an online purchase within a set timeframe for auto parts, but all policies must be conspicuously disclosed. The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection enforces local consumer rights within New York City. NY buyers in disputes that cannot be resolved with us may also file complaints with the NY Attorney General's Office.
New York buyers should verify that JDM parts comply with New York State Department of Motor Vehicles inspection requirements before installation, particularly for emissions-related components.
Florida
Florida consumers are protected under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA, § 501.201 et seq.). Florida law requires merchants to clearly disclose all cancellation terms prior to purchase. This policy page satisfies that requirement and is publicly accessible from our website at all times.
Florida does not mandate a statutory cooling-off period for online auto parts purchases. FDUTPA allows consumers to bring civil actions for actual damages if a seller engaged in unfair or deceptive trade practices. Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania & Other States
Customers in all remaining US states — including Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, and all others — are covered by their respective state consumer protection statutes. While each state's specific laws differ, our policy is designed to meet or exceed general US consumer protection standards in all states where we ship.
Illinois: Protected under the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (815 ILCS 505). Ohio: Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act (ORC § 1345). Michigan: Michigan Consumer Protection Act (MCL § 445.901). Pennsylvania: Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law (73 P.S. § 201-1 et seq.). Washington: Washington Consumer Protection Act (RCW § 19.86).

Emissions & Registration Compliance: Customers in all states are solely responsible for ensuring that JDM parts meet state-level motor vehicle inspection, emissions, and registration standards before installation. This is especially important in states with strict emissions testing programs.
Federal — FTC Regulations (All States)
All US customers are protected by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Act (15 U.S.C. § 45), which prohibits unfair or deceptive acts in commerce. Our cancellation policy is fully compliant with FTC guidance on online retail disclosures.
The FTC's Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule (16 CFR Part 435) requires that we ship within the timeframe stated or offer a full refund. If we cannot fulfill an order within our stated shipping window, we will notify you and give you the option to cancel for a full refund.
The Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA) and Regulation E govern chargebacks and electronic payment disputes. If you initiate a chargeback without first contacting us, we reserve the right to provide evidence to your bank that this policy was disclosed and agreed to. Exceptions & Special Circumstances
Situations Handled on a Case-by-Case Basis
The scenarios below do not fit neatly into a standard cancellation or return category. In these cases, we review each situation individually and communicate directly with the customer to find a fair resolution.
Item Not as Described
If you receive a part that materially differs from the product listing — different part number, wrong engine code, wrong specification — contact us within 48 hours of delivery with photos. We will arrange a return at our cost and issue a full refund. This is separate from a standard cancellation and is handled under our Refund Policy.
Please note: variation in appearance from photos (cosmetic differences in normal used-part condition) does not qualify as "not as described" if the part number and specification are correct.
Carrier Damage During Transit
If a part arrives with visible shipping damage, photograph the damage and the packaging immediately, before moving the item. Do not discard the packaging. Contact us within 48 hours at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with photos. We will file a carrier claim and work with you on a replacement or refund.
Damage claims filed after 48 hours of delivery may not be covered by the carrier's claim window, which limits our ability to recover costs. Prompt reporting is critical.
Import / Customs Delays
JDM parts are imported from Japan and occasionally subject to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) hold, inspection, or delay. If your order is affected by an import delay that materially changes the estimated delivery timeline, we will contact you and offer the option to cancel for a full refund or wait for the item to clear customs.
We do not charge any fees for cancellations caused by import delays on our end. You will always be notified by email if this situation applies to your order.
Incorrect Address Provided
If you entered an incorrect shipping address during checkout and the order has not yet shipped, contact us immediately. We can update the address at no charge before the carrier picks up the package. Once the package is in transit, address correction fees charged by the carrier (typically $15–$20 per package) will be the customer's responsibility and deducted from any applicable refund.
We ship to the address provided at checkout exactly as entered. JDM State Motors of NC LLC is not responsible for delivery failures due to incorrect addresses submitted by the customer.
Compatibility Issue Discovered Post-Purchase
We list compatibility information based on available data from the original Japanese market vehicle specifications. However, verifying fitment for your specific vehicle is always the buyer's responsibility before ordering. If you discover a compatibility issue before the item ships, contact us immediately — we may be able to cancel or exchange.
If the item has already shipped, compatibility issues are not grounds for a no-cost cancellation, as the item is as described. You may request a return under our Refund Policy, but outbound and return shipping costs may apply.
International Buyers Attempting to Order
We ship exclusively to addresses within the 50 United States and Washington, D.C. Orders placed with a non-US shipping address will be cancelled automatically and fully refunded, as our Shipping Policy makes clear. No fees are charged for these cancellations.
If your billing address is outside the US but you have a valid US shipping address, contact us before ordering so we can manually review the order to prevent automated cancellation.
