JDM Scion Engines for Sale
Looking for a Scion TC engine that runs strong and fits your budget? We import Scion engines straight from Japan and test each one before it ships. Every unit gets a compression check, so you know what you're getting before it lands on your driveway. Whether your tC needs a fresh 2AZ-FE or your xB is due for a 1NZ swap, we stock the motors Scion owners actually search for.
Scion tC 2AZ-FE
The first-generation tC ran the 2.4L 2AZ-FE, a four-cylinder engine shared with the Toyota Camry and RAV4. It's a solid, torquey motor that holds up well past 150,000 miles when it's maintained.
Because Toyota used the 2AZ-FE across several models, parts are easy to find. That also means our Toyota engine inventory often has the same block if you need a backup option or a different mileage range.
2AZ-FE oil consumption and what to check
Some 2AZ-FE engines from this era burn oil faster than they should. It's a known issue, not a rumor. Before you buy one, ask the seller for the mileage and the compression numbers. A clean compression test tells you more than the mileage does. Check the oil level every few hundred miles after installation, at least until you know how the engine behaves.
Scion xB and xD
The second-generation xB and the xD share engines with other Toyota compacts. This keeps replacement costs down and makes sourcing a good used unit fairly simple.
If you want to compare a Scion motor against a wider set of JDM options, our full engine catalog covers everything we currently have in stock.
1NZ-FE and 2ZR-FE
The 1NZ-FE is the 1.5L four-cylinder found in the earlier xA and xB. It's light, simple, and built for fuel economy rather than speed. The 2ZR-FE is the 1.8L Dual VVT-i engine used in the xD. Both motors are known for being dependable daily engines, though neither one is built for performance builds.
FR-S FA20 boxer
The FR-S runs the FA20, a 2.0L naturally aspirated boxer engine. It's a favorite for builders because it revs freely and takes well to bolt-on upgrades. This is not the turbocharged FA20DIT from the WRX, so don't mix up the two when you're shopping.
Since the FR-S shares this engine with the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ, you may also find good options on our Subaru engine page if you're weighing your choices across both platforms.
Scion, Toyota and Subaru: which engine is actually in your car
Scion badges caused some confusion, since most of these cars were really Toyotas underneath. Here's a simple way to match your car to its engine.

Testing, warranty and freight
Every engine we sell goes through a leak-down test and a compression test before it's listed. If it doesn't pass, we don't sell it. Simple as that.
Once an engine clears testing, we clean it, photograph it, and strap it to a pallet for shipping. You can read the full details on our shipping policy page, including delivery timelines and how we handle freight damage. A standard startup warranty applies as long as a certified mechanic handles the install.
Scion engine FAQs
What mileage should I expect on a used Scion engine?
Most of our engines fall between 45,000 and 60,000 miles. They come from running cars in Japan, not junkyards, so the mileage tends to be accurate.
Is the FR-S FA20 the same engine as the WRX?
No. The FR-S uses the naturally aspirated FA20. The WRX runs a turbocharged version called the FA20DIT. They share a name but not much else under the hood.
Do I need a specific engine code for my tC?
Yes. Early tC models take the 2AZ-FE. Later ones take the 2AR-FE. Check your VIN or your old engine's code before ordering, since the two aren't interchangeable without extra work.
Will my accessories transfer to the new engine?
Most will, but it depends on the year and trim. Check the listing for your specific engine, and confirm with us if you're not sure.
