How Checkout Works
The Checkout Process
Our checkout is powered by Shopify, one of the most trusted and PCI-DSS-compliant commerce platforms in the world. Here is what happens from the time you place an item in your cart through the moment your order is confirmed.
When Is Your Card Charged?
Your card or PayPal account is charged at the time your order is placed, once payment authorization is confirmed. We do not hold or pre-authorize without capture. Full payment is required before any order is packed or shipped. If you need to cancel your order before it ships, please review our Cancellation Policy.
Payment Security
Your Payment Is Secure
We take payment security seriously. Every transaction on our website is protected by industry-standard technologies and processes. Here is how we keep your payment information safe.
SSL / TLS Encryption
Our entire website, including all checkout pages, is protected with SSL/TLS (HTTPS) encryption. Your card number, CVV, and personal details are encrypted the moment they leave your browser.
PCI-DSS Compliance
Our store operates on Shopify's PCI DSS Level 1 certified infrastructure — the highest level of payment card industry security certification available. We do not store your full card number on our servers.
3D Secure Authentication
For eligible Visa and Mastercard transactions, 3D Secure (Verified by Visa / Mastercard Identity Check) may be triggered automatically by your issuing bank as an additional layer of identity verification. This is outside our control and is determined by your bank's fraud protocols.
No Card Data Stored
JDM State Motors of NC does not store your card number, CVV code, or any full payment credentials on our systems. Payment tokenization is handled exclusively by Shopify Payments and our payment processor.
Fraud Screening
Every order is automatically screened for signs of fraudulent activity using Shopify's built-in fraud analysis tools and our payment processor's risk scoring systems. Orders flagged as high-risk may be held for manual review or cancelled at our discretion.
AVS & CVV Verification
We require Address Verification System (AVS) matching and CVV/CVV2 verification for all card transactions. Transactions where the billing address does not match your card's records or where CVV fails will be declined by the payment processor.
Pricing, Taxes & Fees
Pricing, Sales Tax & Fees
Product Pricing
- ✓ All prices listed on our website are in U.S. Dollars (USD). No foreign currency is accepted.
- ✓ The price shown on each product listing page is the base product price only. Shipping charges and applicable sales tax are calculated separately at checkout.
- ✓ Prices are subject to change without notice. The price displayed at the time you place your order is the price you pay for that order — no retroactive price changes apply.
- ✓ Promotional pricing, discounts, or coupon codes are applied at checkout. Only one promotional code may be applied per order unless otherwise stated.
- ✓ JDM State Motors of NC reserves the right to correct any pricing errors. If your order is affected by a pricing error, we will notify you before charging your card and give you the option to proceed at the correct price or cancel.
Sales Tax
- ✓ Sales tax is collected where required by applicable state law. Tax rates are calculated automatically by Shopify's tax engine based on the destination address you enter at checkout.
- ✓ Following South Dakota v. Wayfair, Inc. (2018), most U.S. states may require us to collect sales tax on online sales even without a physical presence in that state. Tax collection obligations are reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis.
- ✓ North Carolina (our home state) sales tax applies to eligible orders shipped to NC addresses at the applicable Wake County or Johnston County rate.
- ✓ Some used automotive parts may be exempt from sales tax in certain states. Our system applies exemptions automatically where applicable law provides for them.
- ✓ If you are a registered business purchasing for resale (tax-exempt buyer), contact us at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com before placing your order to discuss tax exemption documentation.
Shipping Costs
- ✓ Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the weight, dimensions, and destination of your order.
- ✓ Large items such as complete engines and transmissions typically ship via freight carrier (LTL). Freight shipping costs are displayed at checkout before you enter any payment information.
- ✓ Shipping is a separate line item on your order summary. The total you are charged at checkout includes both the product price and shipping — there are no additional handling or packing fees added after checkout.
- ✓ Full shipping terms are available in our Shipping Policy.
No Hidden Fees
- ✓ The total shown at checkout — product price + shipping + applicable sales tax — is the total amount you will be charged. No additional fees are added after your order is confirmed.
- ✓ We do not charge payment processing surcharges, card convenience fees, or credit card fees of any kind. We absorb our payment processing costs as part of doing business.
- ✓ We do not charge a restocking fee for standard returns made in accordance with our Refund Policy, unless the return falls under specific conditions stated therein.
- ✓ Currency conversion fees (if applicable) are charged by your bank or card issuer if your card account is denominated in a foreign currency. JDM State Motors of NC does not control and is not responsible for your bank's foreign transaction fees.
Order Processing
Order Confirmation & Processing
After successful payment, here is what you can expect during order processing.
Order Confirmation Email
- ✓ An automated order confirmation email is sent to the email address you provided at checkout within minutes of a successful payment. This email includes your order number, itemized order summary, and shipping address.
- ✓ If you do not receive a confirmation email within 30 minutes, please check your spam or junk folder. If it is not there, contact us at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with your name and approximate order time.
- ✓ Receipt of an order confirmation email does not guarantee fulfillment. Orders remain subject to inventory verification and fraud review.
Fulfillment & Shipping Timeline
- ✓ Orders placed Monday through Friday are processed on business days only (excluding federal holidays). Orders placed on Saturday, Sunday, or holidays are queued for the next business day.
- ✓ Most in-stock items are processed within 1–3 business days of payment confirmation. Freight items such as complete engines and transmissions may require additional packaging and pallet preparation time.
- ✓ A separate shipping confirmation email with your tracking number is sent once your order has been dispatched.
- ✓ Track your shipment at any time via our Order Tracking page.
Order Cancellation
- ✓ If you need to cancel your order, contact us immediately at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com or call +1 (919) 803-0095. Cancellations requested before an order is packed and dispatched will be honored.
- ✓ Once an order has been packed and a tracking number assigned, it may no longer be cancellable. In such cases, a return may need to be initiated after delivery.
- ✓ Full cancellation terms — including refund timelines — are detailed in our Cancellation Policy.
Refunds to Original Payment Method
- ✓ Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method used at checkout. We do not issue refunds by check, gift card, or store credit unless the original payment method is no longer valid.
- ✓ Refunds to Visa, Mastercard, and American Express cards typically take 5–10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank's processing time. JDM State Motors of NC initiates refunds promptly but cannot control your bank's posting schedule.
- ✓ PayPal refunds are typically credited to your PayPal balance within 3–5 business days.
- ✓ Full refund eligibility and terms are in our Refund Policy.
Fraud Prevention
Fraud Prevention & Order Verification
To protect all of our customers and ensure a fair shopping environment, JDM State Motors of NC employs proactive fraud detection and order verification practices. These measures protect you from unauthorized use of your payment information and protect our business from fraudulent chargebacks.
Automated Risk Screening
- ✓ All orders are automatically screened by Shopify's fraud analysis engine. Each order receives a risk score based on billing/shipping address match, IP location, order velocity, and other factors.
- ✓ Orders flagged as medium or high risk may be held for manual review before fulfillment begins. We may contact you via phone or email to verify your identity before proceeding.
- ✓ If an order cannot be verified to our satisfaction, we reserve the right to cancel it and issue a full refund to the original payment method.
Identity Verification for Large Orders
- ✓ Orders above a certain value threshold may require additional identity verification. In such cases, we may request a government-issued photo ID and a matching billing statement before releasing the order.
- ✓ Verification documents are handled confidentially and are not stored beyond the purpose of order verification. Refer to our Privacy Policy for details.
- ✓ Failure to provide requested verification within 48 hours may result in order cancellation and a full refund.
Shipping Address Policy
- ✓ For orders paid by credit or debit card, the shipping address must be a verifiable U.S. address. We reserve the right to decline orders where the shipping address cannot be validated.
- ✓ We do not ship to freight forwarding addresses, reshipping services, or addresses identified as associated with high fraud rates.
- ✓ If your billing and shipping addresses differ significantly (e.g., different states), your order may be flagged for manual review as a fraud prevention measure. This does not mean your order is automatically cancelled.
Chargeback Policy
- ✓ We take fraudulent chargebacks very seriously. If you have a legitimate concern about a charge, please contact us first at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com or +1 (919) 803-0095 — we will work to resolve it directly and promptly.
- ✓ Unauthorized chargebacks for orders that were legitimately delivered and accurately described will be disputed with full supporting evidence, including order records, shipping confirmation, and delivery proof.
- ✓ Accounts associated with fraudulent chargebacks may be permanently banned from placing future orders with JDM State Motors of NC.
U.S. State-Specific Rules
Sales Tax by State
Sales tax obligations for online retailers vary by state. Following the South Dakota v. Wayfair ruling, states can require remote sellers to collect and remit sales tax if they meet an economic nexus threshold — typically $100,000 in sales or 200 transactions in a state per year. Below is an overview of key state rules relevant to purchases from JDM State Motors of NC.
Note: Tax laws change frequently. The information below is provided for general guidance only and reflects our understanding as of May 17, 2026. It is not legal or tax advice. Customers with specific tax questions should consult a tax professional.
| State | Sales Tax on Used Auto Parts | Key Notes |
|---|---|---|
| North Carolina (Home State) | Collected | NC state + applicable county rate (Wake/Johnston). Used parts are generally taxable. Base rate is 4.75% state + local up to ~2.75%. |
| California | Collected | Statewide base 7.25% + local add-ons. Some local jurisdictions exceed 10%. CA has strong economic nexus rules. Auto parts are taxable. |
| Texas | Collected | 6.25% state rate + up to 2% local for a max of 8.25%. Used parts sold to consumers are taxable. Resale exemptions require valid Texas resale certificate. |
| Florida | Collected | 6% state rate + local surtax varies by county. Auto parts are taxable. Florida adopted economic nexus thresholds effective July 2021. |
| New York | Collected | 4% state + local rates. NYC reaches up to 8.875%. Auto parts are taxable in NY. Strict economic nexus rules apply. |
| Oregon | None | Oregon has no state sales tax. No collection required for shipments to OR addresses. |
| Montana | None | Montana has no state sales tax. No collection required for shipments to MT addresses. |
| New Hampshire | None | No state sales tax in New Hampshire. No collection required for NH orders. |
| Delaware | None | Delaware has no state or local sales tax. |
| Alaska | Local Only | No statewide sales tax, but some Alaska municipalities have local taxes. We assess based on the specific delivery address where applicable. |
| Washington | Collected | 6.5% state + local. Rates vary significantly by county. Auto parts are taxable. Strong economic nexus law. |
| Illinois | Collected | State rate 6.25%. Chicago metro adds significant local tax. Used auto parts taxable at 1.25% for remote sellers in some interpretations — our system applies the rate required by IL law. |
| Georgia | Collected | 4% state + local SPLOST up to 5%. Most county rates reach 7–8%. Auto parts taxable. |
| Pennsylvania | Exempt in PA | PA exempts most repair parts used directly in vehicle repair services when purchased by a repair shop. Direct consumer purchases of used parts are generally taxable at 6% state rate. |
| All Other States | Varies | Tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address using current Shopify tax tables. If no tax is collected, it may mean we have not reached economic nexus in your state, or your state exempts the category. |
Tax-Exempt Purchases & Resale Buyers
If you are a licensed automotive repair shop or reseller purchasing for resale (wholesale), you may be eligible for a sales tax exemption in your state. To request a tax-exempt purchase, contact us before placing your order at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with your state resale certificate or exemption documentation. Exemptions are processed manually and cannot be applied retroactively to completed orders.

JDM State Motors of NC operates in full compliance with FTC regulations on advertising, disclosure, and unfair or deceptive practices. All product listings on our website reflect the genuine condition of the item as known at the time of listing.
Under the Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA), if you paid by credit card and have a legitimate billing dispute, you have the right to dispute the charge with your card issuer. However, the FCBA requires you to attempt to resolve the dispute with the merchant first for billing errors. We encourage you to contact us before exercising this right — we resolve legitimate disputes quickly and fairly.
Under Regulation E of the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, debit card disputes for unauthorized transactions carry different timelines and protections than credit card disputes. Contact your bank promptly if you believe a debit card was used without authorization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Payment FAQs
Can I pay in installments or use buy-now-pay-later?
PayPal Pay Later (where eligible for your PayPal account) is available at checkout and may offer installment options depending on your PayPal account standing and the order amount. These installment plans are offered and managed entirely by PayPal, not by JDM State Motors of NC. We do not offer our own in-house payment plans, layaway programs, or deferred billing of any kind.
If you select PayPal at checkout, you will see any eligible Pay Later options within the PayPal checkout interface. JDM State Motors of NC receives full payment immediately regardless of which PayPal payment plan you choose — your installment arrangement is between you and PayPal.
Why was my card declined?
Card declines happen for a number of reasons that are outside our control, including: insufficient funds or available credit, card not authorized for online purchases, billing address mismatch (AVS failure), daily spending limit reached, or your bank's own fraud prevention blocking an unfamiliar merchant. JDM State Motors of NC does not receive a specific reason for the decline from the payment processor.
Steps to try: (1) Double-check that your billing address matches what your bank has on file. (2) Confirm that your card is enabled for online or card-not-present transactions. (3) Contact your bank to authorize the transaction. (4) Try an alternate card or use PayPal. If you continue to have trouble, contact us at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com and we will help you troubleshoot.
Do you charge sales tax on JDM engines and parts?
Yes, where required by law. Sales tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address using current tax tables. The exact rate depends on your state and, in some cases, your county or city. States with no sales tax (such as Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, and Delaware) will show $0 in sales tax at checkout.
If you believe sales tax was applied incorrectly to your order, contact us at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com and we will review it. Tax-exempt resale buyers must contact us before placing their order — exemptions cannot be applied retroactively.
Is it safe to enter my card number on your website?
Yes. Our checkout is powered by Shopify, which is certified PCI DSS Level 1 — the highest standard for payment card security. All card data entered at checkout is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS) before it leaves your browser and is processed by Shopify's secure payment infrastructure. JDM State Motors of NC does not store your full card number or CVV code on our servers at any point.
Always verify that the site URL shows "https://" and a padlock icon in your browser's address bar before entering payment details on any website.
Can I use a prepaid debit card?
Prepaid Visa and Mastercard debit cards are accepted at checkout, provided that: (a) the card has sufficient funds to cover the full order total including shipping and tax; (b) the card is registered with a valid U.S. billing address; and (c) the card is enabled for online purchases. Many prepaid cards are not registered with a billing address, which will cause an AVS mismatch and a decline. If you experience issues with a prepaid card, we recommend using PayPal instead.
How long does it take to get a refund?
Once an approved refund has been initiated by JDM State Motors of NC, the timeline for the credit to appear on your account is as follows: Visa, Mastercard, and American Express credit/debit cards — typically 5 to 10 business days after we initiate the refund. This timeframe depends on your card issuer's processing schedule. PayPal — typically 3 to 5 business days to your PayPal balance. If your refund has not appeared within 10 business days, please contact your bank or PayPal first, then reach out to us at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com with your order number.
Can I change my payment method after placing an order?
Once an order is placed and payment is captured, the payment method cannot be changed. If you need to use a different card or payment method, you would need to cancel the order (if it has not yet been packed or shipped) and place a new order. To request a cancellation, contact us immediately at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com or call +1 (919) 803-0095 and reference your order number. See our Cancellation Policy for full details.
Do you offer wholesale or business account pricing?
Yes. If you are an automotive repair shop, dealership, or reseller looking to purchase parts in volume, contact us directly at jdmstatemotorsofnc@gmail.com or call +1 (919) 803-0095 to discuss your needs. Wholesale pricing and payment terms for business accounts are discussed and agreed upon separately from standard retail checkout.
